Welcome to my card-making blog!

I left my job as a technical architect in 2008 after 17 years in the industry.  My career was great, but I wanted to spend more time with my children. I had recently taken up card-making and was looking for something technical to keep me busy while the kids were in school, so I started this blog in February, 2010.

For almost five years, I posted a card-making video every Wednesday. Plus a few extra here and there when I had time.

As my blog grew with content, it got more readers and more traffic (a great thing!). However, that meant more cost and more of my time to keep it running. So although I had provided all my content for free for 5 years, I felt a little pressure to help defray costs. Plus, my kids were getting older, leaving me more time during the day to focus on something I love.

I decided to take all the content I had created over the last five years and combine it with even more content to launch LiveLoveCards. I added special card galleries by technique, product, style, and theme. I also added a community forum for questions and answers, which I review and answer daily.

I post two videos a week to LiveLoveCards. I still continue to post here, at DarleneDesign.com, but only about once or twice per month.

I love the opportunity to share this hobby with so many wonderful, kind people. I read every comment left on this blog and try to answer as many questions as I can.

My friend, Michelle, is a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator and donates her 25% commission to Foster Kids Charity. If you are planning a Stampin’ Up! purchase, please visit her store. I am an affiliate with quite a few online stores: Simon Says Stamp, Ellen Hutson, Scrapbook.com, Dick Blick, Amazon, and JoAnn’s. When you click to their site from my blog, I get a small commission on the purchase.

When I’m not creating cards, I am spending time with my family (a very supportive husband and two young daughters) and two SPCA dogs. I am very passionate about health, wellness, and fitness. I am an AFAA-certified Group Fitness Instructor and teach dance fitness classes in Dallas, TX. If you live in the area and would like to attend, email me! I would love to see you.

Thanks for visiting. 🙂

  1. I just found your tutorial on the Misti, and it was perfect instructions.
I am ordering one today, this is the product I need as I cannot get the thing a ma jig
to work for me. I must have a mental block .. I like to do cards with masking techniques
    this should help a lot..
    thanks again for the tutorial.

  2. Hi, I am hoping you could do a tutorial on how to use 6×6 Scor-tape with dies? Or if you could just give step by step instructions. Thanks.

    Hi Darlene,
    Love your work..
I am planning to a die cutting machine can you suggest which one is good, bigshot or cuttlebug.

    • Darlene DeVries says:

Hi! I started with the Cuttlebug but then ended up selling it and purchasing the Big Shot. To me, it’s a little sturdier and easier to use.

  4. I discovered your videos on You Tube and quickly have become obsessed! I’m watching several a day! I love your style and all the techniques. I was primarilly a scrapbooker for the past 15 years, but am now discovering card making and am really enjoying it. Looking forward to your future videos! 🙂

  5. As a semi-professional photographer, I got into card making to emphasize my wildlife photography. However, I love using stamps, punches and dies as well. I found your YouTube videos while working out at the gym. I’m amazed at the detail of your tutorials. I have made one of the “owl” cards, and am working on the other two owl cards. Also, I followed your instructions on making the flip cards. Now, I can use different dies to make the flip cards. I’m a beginner . . . so thanks for sharing your videos.

Wish I would have known that about S.S.S. I put in an order earlier today. Sorry but the next time I order something I will come back to your blog. Thanks for all your video.

  7. I am just a new fan of everything you do. Your tutorials are fabulous! Hopefully I can add your products as I go. Fantastic and Thanks!

  8. I’m enjoying your tutorials. Very easy to follow and I look forward to creating my own spin on some of the techniques you’ve used.

Thanks for sharing your work – much appreciated.

  9. Hi Darlene,
I enjoyed visiting your blog today for the first time. I have viewed many of your Youtube videos though and I really like your variety of style cards. I can’t wait to retire so that I too can spend many hours in my craft room. Making cards and treat boxes are my most favorite in paper crafting.

May I ask how you got this blog started? I am lost and at this point as to where to start.

    Have a wonderful day,

Hi Joann, I just setup a free blog and started posting – it’s as simple as that. At the beginning I posted a lot more often to build up content. Post your cards to various online galleries and leave a link to your blog for more info. Hope that helps a little!

I have visited your blog for a while now. Love it! One of the best around. Unfortunately can’t access them at the moment. Is this due to problems with Google or something else perhaps? Your videos are excellent, easy to follow and very informative.

    • Darlene DeVries says:

Hi Edith – there are no problems that I know of, so maybe try again is a little bit? Thank you for your kind words. 🙂

Hi Darlene. I have seen some of your videos – fantastic what you are doing 🙂 I am living in Denmark and have tried to find some of the punches ( owl and bird) fra stampit – but they are not shipping to Denmark. Do you know where I can find them ?

    • Darlene DeVries says:

Hi Helen, you can only buy from a demonstrator in your home country. SU is not in Denmark. The closest country to you is the Netherlands. You can purchase from someone there, but you’d have to figure out how to get it because it can only be shipped to someone in that country. Sorry. 🙁

  21. Really enjoying your videos. Very nice work & makes me think maybe I can do it too. Beautiful cards. Thanks!
