  1. Darlene – this card is so lovely. Such attention to detail and patience you have!! I love how you painted these flowers. Whoever gets this card is very lucky! Thanks for sharing it with us.

  2. LOVE this card and tried to CAS it. Don’t have distress markers so I tried to use my watercolor pencils directly and watercoloring–fail. After four tries (managed to smudge the best one, of course) I ended used Copics. Not as pretty as your original but it looks pretty good so I will be proud to send it to my daughter-in-law for her birthday. Thank you so much for the beautiful card and awesome inspiration.

Do you think you might do a video of showing how you might do one project, but use different products? ie, This card, but using Inktense pencils or Peerless water colors or Copics ? I don’t have Distress markers, so I’ll try using what I have. I’d be interested to see what, if anything, you would do differently with the different products.

BTW, I appreciate that you go back and use different stamps from the set. More ideas for using what I already have. – I like that. Thank you!

    • Darlene DeVries says:

Hi Sherry, I will keep that in mind for a future post (i.e. making the same card with different products). It would be interesting to see the results!

  4. Gloria Taylor says:

    One word….STUNNING!

  13. <3, <3, <3 and can't wait to try this. Simply beautiful!!

  14. Aloha Darlene, this is very elegant. It looks so much like conventional watercolor and makes me dream of getting distress markers. Lovely.

  15. Celeste Goff says:

What an absolutely beautiful card Darlene! I love the softness that the distress markers give during water coloring!

  16. Melissa Field says:

This card is absolutely beautiful!! I am incredibly new to card making and just look through your gallery and at your videos with awe! I think this card is one of my favourites and I love that you do the videos so we can see exactly what you did. I’ve looked at other websites and, in my opinion, you are, without a doubt, the best I’ve come across…so creative and such a great teacher! Thanks for sharing with us!

  17. What a lovely card! You did a great job with explaining and showing how to accomplish that watercolor look. Thanks – I love all of your videos!

  21. Carol Lucas says:

Very pretty! Thanks for showing us the different options using the same colors for water coloring.

  22. Maria Rodriguez says:

Oh Darlene, what a wonderfully gorgeous card!!!!! Water coloring is my most favorite medium to color my images and this video really is perfect for me. One thing I haven’t tried is stamping my images with a lighter colored ink like you did on this video, I always use Stazon black ink and, even if the images look very crisp, it’s a bit harsh, doing it with a lighter ink makes a lot of sense, your images are absolutely lovely, you colored them masterfully. Thank you so much for sharing. čÖé

  23. lovely card – thanks for all the different techniques!

  24. Holly Saveur says:

  25. Sharon Hayes says:

Darlene, your work is outstanding as it always is. Thanks for the inspiration and an idea for something I might achieve. I love watercolor, but I fail time after time. Maybe I will be successful with your “easy” technique.

  26. Thanks for the really cool technique and great video! You ave really simplified the whole process beautifully.

  27. So beautiful!

  28. Absolutely Beautiful čÖé

  29. Robin in WA says:

Beautiful card Darlene! Yes, even I can do this (famous last words!) I have to admit, watercoloring LOOKS deceptively simple. I think the key for me, at this very early stage in my watercoloring adventure, is how much water to how much pigment. With distress markers, I find I can do a lot better. Thank you for sharing how you did different techniques to make your card more visually interesting. I need to practice that idea!!

  30. Beautiful card! You do make it look so easy! I’ll have to give this technique a try as I really love the watercolur look, but my other attempts haven’t been very successful.

  31. Anita Holmes says:

I love your Wednesday Video! I am so glad you finally got your magnetic plate and like to think I played a part in that decision! LOL…glad you love it as I do.
Now for the card, beautiful, love the flowers, great technique. Your black border was the perfect touch!
Thanks for sharing your wonderful talent and inspiring all of us!
    Hugs
    Anita

  32. Your right about when some people say it is “really easy” peoples talent vary. “but practice makes perfect” is what my dad always said. Your card came out beautiful. I can’t wait to try this technique. My thing what I tell my kids (who are grown now) “Patience is a virtue ” just get into to in and focus on what you are doing”. There a a lot of things in this world that are distracting, but one thing about water coloring is it makes you pay attention to it, focus on it. Which is very fun and relaxing. As I have told you before Darlene “you are my wednesday cup of joe”. Thanks for always being there and have someone else be there when you are gone. Hope you had a wonderful vacation with your kidos.

  33. Beautiful Card! I love the flowers, and will have to try out this watercolor technique! What is the difference between the magnetic platform, and the platform that comes with the big shot?

    • Darlene DeVries says:

Hi Marie. The platform that comes with the Big Shot is not magnetic, so you have to secure your dies in some way to the acrylic plates (I used masking tape). With the magnetic platform, your dies stick to the plate magnetically, so no need to secure them with masking tape or post-its!
