Altenew Blog Hop!

Welcome to Altenew’s second Blog Hop! You should be arriving here from the Altenew Blog. Altenew is a relatively new stamp company that opened it’s doors last April. In a couple of days they will be releasing their second collection of stamps. All the stamps that you will see here will be available for purchase at 9:00 am ET on Monday July 14th.

Oh, and there are PRIZES!! Altenew is giving away five stamp sets of choice to three lucky winners! The winners will be chosen from comments left on the Altenew blog.

There is more! I will choose a winner from comments left on this post and the prize will be two stamps sets of your choice. How awesome is that?

You have until Monday July 14th 7:59am ET to leave your comments. I encourage you to also like Altenew on Facebook.

For my card, I used stamps from the Sketchy Rose set. This rose is so lovely – perfect for coloring. And fun too – I so enjoyed taking my time and relaxing while I colored it.

Can you believe how vibrant these watercolor results are? It’s amazing that watercolor can give such bright color. Especially since it comes on little pieces of paper – crazy! Yes, I used the Peerless watercolors. If you’re interested in learning more about these watercolors, you can view my Peerless review and tutorial post.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a video for this card. Honestly, I really don’t like posting cards without an accompanying video. I want to show you how easy it is to actually create the cards I post that may seem difficult at first glance. That being said, here are a few tips for this card:

  • Always use watercolor paper for best watercolor results.
  • Heat emboss your image – it will be much easier to stay in the lines when you color.
  • Break the petals down one by one. You can use my photo as a guide for which areas of each petal should be light or dark.
  • If you have color on your brush, always lay it down first in the darkest area of the petal.
  • Periodically remove all color from your brush and blend your image with a little bit of water.

Colors used: Geranium Pink then Alizarine Red for the rose, Grass Green then Dark Green for the leaves/stem, and then a little bit of Neutral Tint surrounding the flower.

So onto the next stop of the hop! Take a look at what Debby Hughes has created. Enjoy your journey!
