Artist’s Butterfly with Faber Castell

Artist Butterfly

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I am lucky enough to be guesting on the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft blog twice this week! See my post on Monday using Gelatos if you missed it.

For today, I thought I would use something different. I’ve never used the Pastel pencils before, so I really enjoyed playing with them on this card. They are just simply vibrant. Even when I applied a little water to smooth it out on my watercolor paper, the color did not fade. They go on kind of like chalk.

The butterfly panel is all one layer. I achieved the dimension by shadowing with the Art Grip Aquarelle pencils, which are Faber Castell’s watercolor pencils. Although you can’t see the outside of the circle very well in the photo, I used a silver watercolor pencil. It has a shimmery look to it.

Please head over to the Faber Castell Design Memory Craft blog for more details. I also included the video below. Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Darlene

Ohhhh I hope that means a future video!!! Thanks so much for the reply, what a thrill to get another one. Just teasing about the video though. It would be fabulous but I get it with being a mom too and life and all that, it could percolate in that creative genius of yours for a long time in-and amongst many other demands. So, I’ll absolutely look forward to it but no pressure ok? Take care!

Love your card. Really like the placement of the butterfly to the circles. Very clever way to do the circles! When you are watercoloring, it looks so easy that I think even I can do it! Thanks for showing us how you do stuff.

Fabulous once again Darlene!! If your pastels are chalky will they rub off at all from the card or do you need to spray it with a sealant? I also wonder if this could be done with chalk pastels that come in a tray – the little squares? I have a big set and never use them as I don’t know what to do with them. Do you have any suggestions? I didn’t see them in the video of your amazing craft room so not sure if you’ve used them in any past videos. I’m wanting to stop “collecting” new supplies and find ways to use what I have. As always I just love your videos and it’s such a treat to find these in my inbox so thank you so much for sharing them.

Thank you Danielle! I didn’t spray the card because my pastel coverage wasn’t very thick. I’m sure if you rubbed it with a lot of pressure it might smear, but I figured no one was really going to do that. As far as the chalks that come in a tray, they are more for coloring than drawing. They are more subtle in color than I like, so I don’t use mine much. I don’t think I have any videos on them, but I will tell you that I have set in my “to use” box. 🙂

  4. Really a cool card. I am going to give it a try. You do such wonderful work Darlene. Thank you for your posts, I look forward to them. Thank you.
