Ellen Hutson CLASSroom Guest Post and GIVEAWAY!!

Gelato Flowers

Hi All!

I’m excited to say that I was invited into the Ellen Hutson CLASSroom today!!

I made a card using Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos and Big Brush Pens from the blue and green Mixed Media Sets. I love how the markers glide and blend on top of the Gelatos. I also used the Big Brush white pen for highlights – it’s opaque and applies like a marker. I used my finger to blend pretty much everything, but the good news is that everything is water soluble. So, no inky fingers. 🙂

The awesome news is that Ellen is giving away the products I used on this card! How cool is that? Take a look at this blog candy:
Darlene DeVries Blog Candy

  1. lovely card. So simple yet so effective.

  2. I absolutely love this card! Using black cardstock really sets this card apart from any card I have ever seen. The petals on the flowers standout as if they were just picked. I think I feel a sneeze coming on from smelling the flowers. Darlene did an awesome job creating this card and stamping “just a note” on the vellum tag to let the flowers show through was an amazing idea. And the Gelatos, what can I say, who would have thought these little sticks could produce such beautiful results. I can’t wait to get my hand on some. Boy oh boy would I love to win this set.

Thank you Darlene for your inspiration.

  3. What a great place you have and thank you ever so much for teaching how gelatos can be used – It showed me I miss some materials (The mix & match stampers big brush pen) I though I missed something 😉 . Thank you ever so much
    Kind regards

  4. Love this card. Your use of color is beautiful! Just wondering if you have an art degree. I can never tell where and what to shade. Thanks for the inspiration!

    • Darlene DeVries says:

No, I don’t have an art degree Terrie, but what a compliment! 🙂 I think all that shading just comes with practice.

  5. Ms Ellen S. Robison says:

Sorry I missed out on the contest. Winning some items to make greeting cards with would be very helpful. I am disabled and just started creating ‘Cards for Soldiers’ for them to send home to their families. I will be making enough to fill a USPS Large flat rate shipping box to send to each the Army, Marines and Air Force and they are free to them so they can choose them to send home to their families. Since I am just starting out I am paying out of pocket for all of supplies. I have just received my Cuttlebug, and am trying to stock up on some other items. Just happened across this looking for some ideas on how to color stamps. Great card btw. Thanks.

  6. THIS CARD IS AH-MAZING!!! The first time I saw it I was blown away; it looks 3d as if the flowers are floating in a staggered manner and they move. I completely missed that you cut the card front apart before assembled the finished piece.

    you must have heard this many many times but you are exactly the type of teacher they need at Craftsy;

I love the owl punch and the tiny stars but this card is really, truly
THE BEST….look at it again. it looks like one of those images w/the ridges you’d see in children’s books that move as you move the page around.

    Awesome card.

  7. Gloria Taylor says:

  15. Thank you Darlene for the new ideas on how to use gelatos and big brush pens. I like the way that you just blended them with your finger. I’ve used water on a paint brush, but not my finger and I love the way it looks on the black embossed flowers. Looks like you painted them yourself 🙂

Thanks for making Wednesdays still the best day of the week! And thanks to you and Ellen Hutson for a chance at this super blog candy!
