Happy 4th of July!!
Sorry for the later-than-usual post today! Believe it or not, I slept until 10:00! It’s all those 6-hour nights of sleep this week. The kids are going to bed so late this summer, so I am going to bed even later. Then, I was leisurely eating my breakfast and suddenly thought, my blog!
Remember I told you several weeks ago that I was on a buying binge? Well, I’m still powering through all these new products! I also told you that I branched out into some new brands. This week I’m working with a couple of stamp sets from Stamps of Life. I bought them at the scrapbook convention here about a month ago. I really like them – very cute but at the same time very functional. They are really sticky and ink up awesomely. I used Versafine, Versamagic, and Colorbox Chalk Inks on them – they all worked great.
I brushed on Crystal Effects to make the jar glossy. It worked great, but what would have probably worked a little better would be several layers of clear embossing, similar to how I did the heart on THIS CARD. I didn’t want to spend the time with all that embossing, so I took the short cut!
The jar top is wet and crumpled paper – very easy to do and creates a pretty dramatic texture. I forgot to take a picture of the inside of the card. It says, “Candy makes everything better!”. I show it in the video.
Funny thing happened (well, not really). Right after I turned off the video camera, I dropped a black ink pad right on the card!!! Have you ever done that? OMGosh I was so mad. I tried to fix it, but it just couldn’t be fixed. So… the photo above is the first version I made, not the one from the video. The only difference is that I used Blackbird Chalk Ink in the photo and Versafine Black Ink in the video. The Chalk Ink absorbs better into the paper, but it also fades a little bit. The Versafine ink was a very dark black, but it didn’t absorb as well. I preferred the Versafine, only because I liked the rich look of the black.
On a personal note, for those of you who follow my blog regularly, you know that my 11-year-old daughter is a big dog rescue advocate. She heard about a Pit Bull that needs to be rescued, so she got to know him and posted to her new blog, along with pictures and video. CLICK HERE to view the post about this sweet dog, Wilson. If you know of anyone in the Dallas area who might be interested, please pass the link along.
One of my good friends questioned my judgement in letting Alaina get this close to a Pit Bull. In fact, I was a little hesitant at first. But, my friend who is fostering this dog assured me that he is very sweet. I was very surprised at how calm and gentle he is. Alaina is always talking about Pit Bulls and how they are so misunderstood from too much media frenzy on their dog-aggressive ways. True, they have a tendency towards dog aggression, especially when trained to be that way. But, they are very people friendly.
Okay, thank you for letting me ramble on about that. Alaina posted to her blog a few days ago and is a little discouraged that no one has left a comment, so if you have time to leave an encouraging word for her, she would just love it.
Anyhoo – hope you have fun plans for tonight! Stay safe and I’ll be back next week!
