Hi All!
If you like my Facebook page, you probably already know that my video camera died! Luckily, it was right after I transferred this card video to my computer. I knew this would happen any day – I feel like I’ve had this camera forever! Anyway, I ended up buying a Canon Vixia HF M40. It’s supposed to arrive today actually! I sure hope next week’s video goes smoothly… you never know with new technology.
I’ve had this monkey stamp for probably a year. I just haven’t gotten around to using it! Sometimes I feel like all I want to do is buy stuff and then I don’t use it – you know? Does anyone else have this disease? I’m literally standing in my craft room with tons and tons of supplies and I think, “I don’t have anything I can work with.” Kind of like being in my closet with all these clothes and nothing to wear! I seriously need to start using my existing stamps more often.
When I made the first version of this card, I grabbed some Neenah white cardstock for the leaves and used Stampin’ Up! ink. When it was done, I realized my mistake and used Stampin’ Up! white cardstock the second time. See both examples below – Neenah first, Stampin’ Up! second.
Wow, it’s an amazing difference, don’t you think? The Stampin’ Up! ink absorbs so much better into the paper.
Another interesting thing I figured out… the Top Note die is not perfectly centered. In other words, if you line up your card in the middle of the die to run through the Sizzix, the cut will not be in the middle. Not good, huh? So, I marked the center with a pen, centering a 4.25×5.5 box around the die cut. Make sense? It works!
The inside of the card says “Hang in there” – it’s just plain in the middle so I didn’t take a photo, but it’s in the video.

Oh finally someone else in the same situation…. I felt so quilty for all the stuff I buy and never use it because I just can’t keep up with all the great creations out there. I was just playing with that same stamp last night to make a card for my niece’s birthday next week. She loves monkeys. Love the card you made with it. I’m new to card making and appreciate your coloring tips and creativity. I too can relate to buying supplies and not using them even as a newbie. Also, I’m amazed and impressed at how nice you cut the monkey image out. I attempted and failed miserable so I stamped him directly on the card. I may give it another try. So happy I found your blog.
How fun! I have that little monkey and the grass and must have some leaves in my stash – what a great idea you have given me. Like you, I have a room full of things. I love collecting them and wish I had time to use them all.

Thanks for sharing this adorable card and video. Always enjoy your work and especially your video’s showing you the card was developed. Since I am a visual learner, I wondered if you could share with us by video how you centerd the top note die so it would be straight. I use that die a lot and would like to do the same on my die but just not sure I understand what you did.

Carol – I’m not sure I will have time to video this process, but maybe I can explain it…
Place a rule across the center of your top note outline (long side) so that it measures a total of 5.5″ across. So, the ruler will have a fraction of an inch outside the top note outline on both sides. The key it to make sure this fraction is exactly the same on both sides. When you have it set, use a pen to mark 0″ and 5.5″.
Do the same thing on the short side and measure 4.25″.
When you run your top note die through the machine, you’ll line up your 4.25×5.5″ paper against the pen marks you have made.
