Hi All!

My annual Christmas card is a big project for me. I start thinking about it in August, prototype in September, then create in October. I seriously spend a lot of sleepless nights trying to come up with the most perfect card that is not too hard to replicate, since I make about 75 or 80. I think of my Christmas card as a mini-present to everyone, which is why I spend so much time thinking about it.

I usually try to do something unique, like a special fold or texture. I mean, it’s Christmas, so it needs to be special, right?? For those of you that follow Kristina Werner’s blog, you know that she recently promoted a book called Folding Ideas for Cards and Envelopes. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to get it. I love popups and different things like that. So, that’s where I got the idea for this tag-shaped Christmas card. The ornament stamp and sentiment are from the same stamp set, Contempo Christmas. And, of course, the ornament punch makes it super easy!!

I used Versamark for the background ornaments, similar to the technique I used on the Seize the Cupcake card. But, I used Versamark Dazzle, so the stamped image has a shimmer to it – perfect for Christmas!! When I first designed the card, I had a plain background, and it was just, welll…. too plain. Then I added a leafy background stamp and it was too busy. I didn’t want to take focus away from the ornament with anything too complicated. So, Versamark tone-on-tone was it!

I hope you like it! I just received a HUGE Stampin’ Up! order. Whenever I get a box in the mail, it is so exciting!!! My head is swimming with ideas for all these new stamps and tools! Too many products and too little time!! I will tell you that next week’s card uses the vanilla shimmer mist. I love, love, love it. I can’t believe I just now bought it. I think it would also be great on a Christmas card. Stay tuned!!

Enjoy and have a great week!

I enjoyed seeing you create the card start to finish. It has lots of detail for a card that is going to be done 80 times! Your photo is beautiful and I like that it’s inside. Thanks for another great card!

  5. Hi Darlene,
I LOVE this card. I’m thinking about doing something similar for my Christmas cards this year. One question – what size envelope will the fit in? The finished card is 4 1/4 x 6 3/4 with a little extra for the ribbon? will that fit in any standard envelope? Thanks for the inspiration!! :o)

    • Darlene DeVries says:

Hi Amy! Good question – I actually have a bunch of 5×7 envelopes (actual measurements are 5.25×7.25), so I made this card to fit that envelope. The card is a little bit smaller, but there’s not too much extra room in the envelope. It is a standard A7 size. I bought mine in bulk here: http://www.paper-papers.com/a7-envelopes.html.

  6. Great card, beautiful photo!!

  7. Darlene, this is just so cute. But here’s the thing: one video a week is not enough for me! I know you’re busy, but if you could sneak in an occasional extra one once in awhile, that would make me so happy. (And it is all about me, right??) 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing your talent. I, too, love Wednesdays just so I can see what wonderful creation you have to show us next! Thanks, again.

    • Darlene DeVries says:

@Ann – lol! Honestly, I can barely keep up with one video per week! I spend quite a bit of time preparing one video (not to mention the time I put into creating the card before I even start the camera rolling!).
You are nice to say you want more – I think maybe after March I will have more time, so it’s possible I could do more in the future! Thanks for watching. 🙂

  8. Darlene
I love this card! It it looks so easy, but then you always make them look easy. I may have to try making this card, however, I don’t own the punch but maybe I can use something else. Thanks for wonderful ideas.

  9. Such a unique and special Christmas card Darlene. I have never seen Versamark Dazzzle ink before…I will have to keep an eye out for it. Such a beautiful gift, with a beautiful photo. 🙂

  10. Darlene, this isn’t just a card, it’s a treasure! Beautiful! I’ve been thinking about ordering that book since I saw it on KW’s blog. I think I “need” it! As always, thank you for a wonderful card and video.

  11. Margaret in WI says:

Thanks Darlene teriffic card! Love the color combo and of course, the pic of your two girls! One question tho, where do you write your message or put your names?

    • Darlene DeVries says:

Hi Margaret – good question! I use the inside cover for my note (the side that faces the picture when the card is closed). I always hand-write the names of the people I am sending the card to and a short little message. If I’m going to go so far as to create this card for each person, I might as well personalize it!! 🙂

  12. Another great card. I love the tag shape card, it looks good!

  13. Great picture of your girls.
I love the shape of the card. And the end result.
    Eveline.
