I just want to quickly thank those of you that link back to my blog when you CASE my design on your own blog. There are times I see my designs on other people’s blogs and although I’m happy to be an inspiration, I just appreciate it so much when you link back. Okay, onto this week’s card…
I’ve seen a lot of cards recently where the center is tilted slightly. I was inspired by it, so here’s what I came up with. I usually go to my craft room with some kind of idea or sketch, but not this time. And I have to tell you that I was a little stressed out by it, lol! If you’ve been following my blog for awhile, you know that I am very organized and I plan everything. In fact, I am already stressing about Christmas cards because I don’t have the perfect photo… and I can’t design the perfect card without first having the perfect photo! Getting two girls into a nice outfit with hair brushed and a pleasant face is a challenge.
Yet another new stamp set from the new Stampin’ Up! Idea Book and Catalog called Creative Elements. I’ve already used it in my scrapbooking – I think that swirly stamp has a lot of uses! The nice part about the flower is that the shaded areas are already shown for you, making the shadowing with Copics a lot easier. I only used two shades on the flower. I then used the colorless blender to remove some color – an option for those of you that only have two shades of a certain color.
I messed up the video at the end. I got distracted by the telephone, then I thought on was off and off was on. Anyway, just the last part with the liquid pearls got cut off, so not too much. Sorry about that!

this card is beautiful. I had a question since you seem to use copic markers a lot. I am a new user and decided to use the copic markers on my Christmas cards this year. I’ve already started them and didn’t even get half way through before the ink dried up. I am making 100 and using them on a small design of Mary and Joseph w/ baby Jesus. I thought that wasn’t a lot of ink used before I ended up having to buy another pen. I don’t have the refills here in town so ended up costing me another $7.00 each pen to replace it. Is this normal to go through a pen ink that fast? And also where do you get your pens and refillers? Thanks

Another fantastic video Darlene! I seriously believe that you make the best videos out there, everything is so well planned out, it just rolls so smoothly, and I always get so much out of it, so thank you! I absolutely adore that flower in that set, totally gorgeous. Just a question, now that SU has the cling sets, do you find that you purchase those everytime, if they are available, instead of the wood block stamps? And would you say that the stamping quality is just as good in cling as in wood? Have a great day!
Great card!! I see as I watch you create your cards how much you appear to have been influenced by Jill Foster. You really use her techniques so well in your own unique creations. I follow her blog and love her work. I have to get back to making cards so that I too, can try these techniques that you both do so well.
@Brenda – Yes, I buy all cling stamps now from Stampin’ Up!, with one exception – the background stamps. I like to have a solid backing to work with when there is a lot to ink and stamp. In fact, SU doesn’t sell the background stamps in cling – they only come in wood. Hero Arts and others sell their background in cling, but I always get the wood. I think the stamping quality is the same, since it’s rubber just like the wood. Although, you might say the cling is slightly better because you get better placement by seeing what you are stamping!
@Lynn – I haven’t needed to replace any of my markers yet. I’ve had some for about a year. However, I’m not doing the volume that you are doing! So, maybe it is normal. You might want to call the place you bought them and ask. I get my markers here: http://www.carpediemstore.com/. Good luck!

So beautiful! How to distress – getting those soft colors and images in the background and pretty frayed edges- has always been a bit of a mystery to me. Thanks for showing me how to do it. I think I “need” that Tim Holtz blending tool. These colors are gorgeous together. Your card is perfection
